Our signature two-week sweep through Singapore and Malaysia, designed with room to breathe: guided mornings and free afternoons, characterful hotels, hawker tables and an unhurried island finale.
The Journey

Two weeks across Singapore and Malaysia: our Singapore Malaysia itinerary

Fourteen days across Singapore and Malaysia: our signature journey, and our most relaxed one. Two countries, six stays, and the full sweep of the peninsula from the Lion City to Langkawi’s beaches, with something the other journeys guard less carefully: time. Guided mornings, free afternoons, and whole days that are yours alone.

Singapore opens the story with a private walk through the Civic District and a sunset among Chinatown’s five-foot walkways, balanced by mornings that belong to you: the Gardens’ cloud forests, Kampong Glam’s golden dome, Orchard Road, all with our curated notes in hand. Then the road north: UNESCO Malacca en route to Kuala Lumpur’s towers, colonial squares and a banana leaf lunch at a family-run kitchen we love.

The middle chapters climb into the Cameron Highlands’ tea fields and flower parks, pause for Ipoh’s tin-boom grandeur and white coffee, and cross to Penang for orangutans, trishaws and a Michelin-starred Peranakan table.

And the ending is pure tropics: three nights on Langkawi’s Pantai Tengah beach, with the cable car and Skybridge included and the mangroves there if you want them. This journey is priced with characterful four-star stays; prefer more luxurious hotels throughout? Every night can be tailored upward, that is the point of tailor-made.

Selamat Datang ke Singapura!

Day one of your Singapore Malaysia itinerary. Arrive in Singapore, where your driver meets you at Changi, quite possibly the world’s most beautiful airport, for the short ride to JEN Tanglin, your smart base near Orchard Road.

The rest of the day is yours, and we have ideas. Our curated self-guided notes lead you into two of the city’s most colorful quarters: Kampong Glam, the old Malay seat with its golden Sultan Mosque, the Malay Heritage Centre and the boutiques of Haji Lane; and Little India, where the spice-scented Tekka Centre, the rainbow Tan Teng Niah villa and the Sri Veeramakaliamman Temple reward an unhurried wander. Both are easy by MRT, and dinner suggestions are in the notes.

Raffles, the River & the Last Malayan Tiger
Day 02

Raffles, the River & the Last Malayan Tiger

After breakfast, your private guide leads you into the Civic District, where modern Singapore’s origin story is written in stone, water and light. Begin at the Merlion, with Marina Bay opening before you, then pass the neoclassical Fullerton Hotel and stand near the site where Sir Stamford Raffles first came ashore in 1819.

The walk continues through the city’s grand civic ensemble: the National Gallery, Victoria Theatre, St. Andrew’s Cathedral and the former Supreme Court. A traditional bumboat then carries you along the Singapore River, once the commercial artery of the colonial port, still the city’s most elegant corridor.

Continue up Fort Canning Hill, where the story reaches back beyond Raffles to ancient Singapura and the treaty that transformed the island. The walk ends at Raffles with the curious tale of the last wild tiger said to have been shot within the city. Your guide leaves you here; the Long Bar and its famous Singapore Sling are steps away if you fancy one (optional, own expense).

The afternoon is yours: Orchard Road’s two kilometres of shopping are a stroll from the hotel, and our notes point you to the best of it.

Gardens by the Bay & a Chinatown Sunset
Day 03

Gardens by the Bay & a Chinatown Sunset

The morning is yours among the Gardens by the Bay: your conservatory tickets are included, so take the MRT over and wander the Flower Dome and the misty Cloud Forest at your own pace. No guide needed, just time and a camera.

Late afternoon, your guide meets you for Chinatown at its most atmospheric hour. Begin inside the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple, where the monks’ evening drum-and-bell ritual is one of the quarter’s most memorable moments, then follow the five-foot walkways: Pagoda Street, bak kwa at Lim Chee Guan, egg tarts on Smith and Sago Streets, the old remedies of Thye Shan Medical Hall, and the murals of Mohamed Ali Lane into Ann Siang Hill.

The evening ends at Lau Pa Sat, the Victorian hawker hall, where Satay Street fires up outside at dusk and your guide orders the classics. Dinner is on us.

Through Malacca to Kuala Lumpur
Day 04

Through Malacca to Kuala Lumpur

Leave Singapore by road and cross into Malaysia. The route north pauses in Malacca, the UNESCO-listed trading port where Malay sultans, Portuguese, Dutch and British all left their mark: a guided walk through the old town, a gentle river cruise past painted godowns, and a Nyonya lunch, the city’s own Peranakan cuisine.

By evening you arrive in Kuala Lumpur and Capri by Fraser Bukit Bintang, your apartment-style base in the city’s liveliest dining and shopping quarter. The evening is free; Jalan Alor’s hawker stalls are a short walk away.

Day 05

KL’s Icons & a Hidden Banana Leaf Lunch

A half-day private tour of the capital, starting gently in the Lake Gardens, the city’s first public park, with the National Monument and a lookout giving you the new Royal Palace in full view. At the hilltop Thean Hou Temple, six ornate tiers honor the goddess of the sea.

Lunch is a hidden gem: banana leaf rice at a family-run kitchen in Bangsar, piled with curries and crispy papadom, far from the tourist trail.

The tour ends among the towers: a walk around the Petronas Twin Towers and KLCC Park for the photos, no queues, no tickets, just the city’s most famous silhouette from every angle. The afternoon is yours: the Pavilion malls and Bukit Bintang’s cafés are steps from your hotel.

Colonial Kuala Lumpur & a Hainanese Lunch
Day 06

Colonial Kuala Lumpur & a Hainanese Lunch

This morning’s walk is the city’s colonial heart. At Merdeka Square, where independence was declared, the Moorish arches of the Sultan Abdul Samad Building finally reopened to the public last year after a careful restoration, and we walk through, of course. On to the confluence of the Klang and Gombak rivers and Masjid Jamek, then Central Market’s art-deco halls and the mural-painted lanes of Kwai Chai Hong.

Lunch is another classic: Hainanese chicken rice, poached to silk, at a kopitiam that has perfected it. Then the afternoon is free.

Fancy one more taste of the city? Join the optional Sambal Streets evening food walk through Kampung Baru’s Malay food stalls (additional cost, worth every ringgit).

Batu Caves & Up to Tea Country
Day 07

Batu Caves & Up to Tea Country

An early visit to Batu Caves, Malaysia’s most important Tamil sanctuary: the golden Lord Murugan, 272 rainbow steps, shrines in the limestone, and the Thaipusam story from your guide.

Then the road climbs toward the Cameron Highlands, pausing at a palm oil plantation to understand both its economic weight and the efforts to protect primary rainforest. At a tea farm high above the lowlands, BOH or another estate depending on the day, walk the tea fields over 5,000 feet up, see a working factory, and take in the panoramas.

Stroll Tanah Rata at your pace before settling into Strawberry Park Resort, a tranquil mountain retreat in the misty hills. Dinner is free; we suggest a steamboat, bubbling broth at your table, perfect in the cool air.

Flower Parks, Strawberries & the Road to Ipoh
Day 08

Flower Parks, Strawberries & the Road to Ipoh

A gentle highland morning before the descent. At Flora Park, a jeep shuttles you up to terraced gardens of blooms with a glasshouse café among them, and a strawberry farm stop follows, the highlands’ sweetest ritual.

Then the road winds down through kampongs and limestone hills to Ipoh, the City of Millionaires, and the Weil Hotel, your smart base with the old town at its feet. (Fancy something extraordinary instead? The Banjaran Hotsprings Retreat, jungle villas with private hot-spring pools, is the natural upgrade here.)

Late afternoon, stretch your legs on an Ipoh heritage walk: the railway station they call the Taj Mahal of Ipoh, Concubine Lane’s murals and cafés, the old town’s grand facades, and a white coffee stop, naturally. Evening free; our notes cover the bean-sprout chicken and hor fun the locals queue for.

Orangutans & on to Penang
Day 09

Orangutans & on to Penang

One of the journey’s quiet wonders this morning: Bukit Merah’s Orangutan Island, an easy hour from Ipoh, where a short boat ride brings you to an island refuge. You walk a tunnel while the orangutans roam free outside, and learn how rehabilitation returns them to the wild. We time it around the boats, so there is no rush; one thing to note, the sanctuary rests on Tuesdays.

Then onward to Penang, over the bridge to George Town and Hotel Penaga, a heritage boutique hideaway of restored shophouses on Jalan Hutton, all timber screens, lap pool and quiet courtyards.

In the afternoon, George Town by trishaw and on foot: clan jetties, Khoo Kongsi’s carvings, the Street of Harmony’s layered faiths. And tonight is special: dinner at Auntie Gaik Lean’s Old School Eatery, the Michelin-starred Peranakan kitchen where recipes are family heirlooms. Included, of course.
