The rest of the day is deliberately unscripted. Rest, swim, or take a gentle first look at the city — the Supertrees at Gardens by the Bay for spectacle, or the UNESCO-listed Botanic Gardens and National Orchid Garden for something quieter.

After breakfast, your guide leads a private walk through the Civic District — the colonial heart of Singapore, told through its landmarks. Begin at the Merlion, with Marina Bay spread before you, then pass the neoclassical Fullerton Hotel and stand where Sir Stamford Raffles first stepped ashore in 1819.

The National Gallery, Victoria Theatre and St. Andrew’s Cathedral follow, along with a hidden viewing deck at the Supreme Court and its rare panorama over the river shophouses. A traditional bumboat then carries you along the Singapore River: colonial facades on one side, glass towers on the other.

Continue up Fort Canning Hill, where the story runs from ancient Singapura to the treaty of 1819, past the National Museum and CHIJMES. The walk ends in timeless fashion: a Singapore Sling at Raffles’ Long Bar, complete with the curious tale of the last wild tiger shot within the city. The afternoon is yours.

The morning is yours. For inspiration, consider the ArtScience Museum’s Future World exhibition at Marina Bay Sands, followed by a browse through the Shoppes. Instead of paying for the SkyPark deck, have lunch at Spago on the rooftop and let the view arrive with dessert.

In the afternoon, our signature Chinatown walk leads you through Pagoda Street, the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple and the back lanes where early immigrants’ stories still echo. Taste bak kwa at Lim Chee Guan, hear of opium dens and coolie labor, and sample egg tarts and mooncakes along Smith and Sago Streets.

At Thye Shan Medical Hall, step into the world of ginseng and bird’s-nest remedies. Continue past Sri Mariamman, the city’s oldest Hindu temple, and the murals of Muhammad Ali Lane into Ann Siang Hill — once Chinatown’s beating heart.

The walk concludes at Thian Hock Keng, a Hokkien masterpiece that once faced the sea. Dinner follows at Lau Pa Sat, where your guide orders and explains Singapore’s beloved hawker classics beneath the historic ironwork — Hainanese chicken rice first among them.

The morning belongs to two of Singapore’s most vibrant quarters. In Little India, explore the spice-scented Tekka Centre, street murals, silk vendors and the vividly painted Tan Teng Niah villa. At Sri Veeramakaliamman Temple, witness the coconut-breaking ritual; at the Little India Arcade, learn the art of sari wrapping.

Then comes Kampong Glam, seat of Malay-Muslim heritage: the Malay Heritage Centre and former sultan’s palace, the golden domes of Sultan Mosque, and a pilgrimage outfitters that has served Mecca-bound travelers for generations. Boutiques and cafés fill the lanes before lunch at The Coconut Club — nasi lemak, elevated.

The evening is the finale: a 2.5-hour sunset dinner cruise aboard the Royal Albatross, a tall ship sailing from Sentosa. Four courses — or a buffet, depending on the sailing — soft drinks included, and the sun going down over the strait.

Your last day flexes around your flight. Sentosa has a mood for everyone: Tanjong Beach Club for chic seafront lounging, Ola Beach Club for jet-blade thrills, or Siloso Beach for a simple, crowd-free swim.

For a final dose of fun, there is Universal Studios. For quieter discoveries, seek out the island’s art installations, hidden coves and the rope bridge to the Southernmost Point of Continental Asia. History lovers should save an hour for Fort Siloso — Singapore’s only preserved coastal fort, tunnels and all.
