Semenggoh Orangutans, Sarawak Cultural Village, and Dolphin Cruise
Start the day at Semenggoh Wildlife Centre, where semi-wild orangutans emerge from the forest during feeding time. Then explore the Sarawak Cultural Village, where traditional longhouses bring the state’s many ethnic groups to life. In the late afternoon, head to Santubong for a mangrove river cruise in search of Irrawaddy dolphins, rare creatures known to surface in the coastal swamps.
Semenggoh Orangutans, Sarawak Cultural Village, and Dolphin Cruise

Your day begins early with a visit to the Semenggoh Wildlife Centre, located 20 kilometers south of Kuching. This nature reserve is the largest orangutan rehabilitation centre in Sarawak. Established in 1975, its mission is to care for injured, orphaned, or formerly captive orangutans. Today, it serves as a semi-wild habitat and an educational hub for visitors on Kuching tours and Sarawak wildlife experiences. You’ll arrive by 9:00 am for the morning feeding session. For one hour, you’ll have the rare chance to observe these great apes up close, while learning about their behavior, habitat, and the conservation efforts underway. Orangutans share 97% of our DNA—making this encounter a humbling glimpse into the animal world.
After your orangutan experience, continue your Sarawak tour at the Sarawak Cultural Village, a living museum near Damai Beach. This 17-acre site introduces you to the many ethnic groups of Sarawak through immersive exhibits and performances. Begin with a cultural show in the air-conditioned theater, featuring traditional dances and music, from graceful Orang Ulu hornbill dances to the energetic ngajat of Iban warriors performed with rainforest instruments and gongs. Following the performance, enjoy an included lunch at Restaurant Budaya, where you’ll sample dishes such as cucumber leaf soup, minced fish, and chopped petai beans with anchovies.
You’ll then have free time to explore the longhouses and traditional homes representing Sarawak’s major ethnic groups. Visit the Bidayuh Longhouse, home to gongs, war drums, and wooden masks, then climb the notched staircase to the Iban Longhouse, where local weaving and music are on display. Stop by the Orang Ulu Longhouse, surrounded by tropical greenery and known for intricate beadwork and sape music. Continue to the Chinese Farmhouse, showcasing pepper gardens and lowland farming architecture, and the towering Melanau Tall House, where you’ll learn about sago processing and ancestral beliefs. End with the Malay House, where you can try games like congkak, and the Penan Hut, where blowpipes are made—you can even try one yourself.
In the late afternoon, drive to the Santubong Boat Club, about 30 minutes away, to embark on a river cruise. This relaxing two-hour journey brings you through the Santubong and Salak Rivers, in search of the rare Irrawaddy dolphin, known for its rounded head and preference for coastal and estuarine waters. While sightings are not guaranteed, Santubong is one of the best places in Sarawak to observe these elusive creatures. As you explore the mangrove-lined waterways, you may also spot crocodiles, otters, water monitor lizards, and a variety of bird and fish species. After the cruise, return to your hotel in Kuching for a well-earned rest.

Fly to Mulu & Experience Mulu National Park's Famous Bat Exodus
Embark on an adventure into the deep rainforests of Mulu National Park and discover the UNESCO-listed park’s stunning biodiversity and the renowned Mulu Caves, among the world’s largest. Explore Deer Cave and Lang’s Cave, marveling at their vast limestone formations and stalactites. Witness the spectacular bat exodus at dusk before returning to the Marriott Mulu Resort & Spa for a relaxing evening and dinner.
Fly to Mulu & Experience Mulu National Park's Famous Bat Exodus

After an early breakfast, head to Kuching Airport for your flight to Mulu, where you’ll transfer to your hotel near Gunung Mulu National Park. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is globally recognized for its rich biodiversity, untouched tropical rainforest, and extraordinary karst landscapes. Within the park lies the world-renowned Mulu Caves, one of the largest and most spectacular cave systems on Earth.
Nestled in the dense Bornean rainforest, the 5-star Mulu Marriott Resort & Spa offers scenic views and upscale comfort. Built in the style of traditional longhouses and elevated on wooden stilts, the resort combines cultural design with modern amenities. You’ll stay in a Deluxe King Room with a private balcony overlooking the jungle or the Melinau River. The resort also features its own water treatment system, ensuring safe and clean water throughout your stay.
Upon arrival, you may check in to your hotel depending on flight timing. If not, you’ll proceed directly to the park headquarters. Please note that all Mulu National Park activities are conducted in small groups and not privately guided, however private tours are available if you prefer. At 2:15 PM, meet your park guide at the HQ and begin a 3-kilometer walk along raised boardwalks through the rainforest. This UNESCO-listed park is home to dramatic limestone formations, deep gorges, and some of the world’s largest cave chambers carved by underground rivers over millions of years.
Your first stop is Deer Cave, a massive limestone cavern stretching 2.2 kilometers in length and soaring up to 220 meters high. Once carved by a mighty river, it remains one of the most impressive cave passages in the world. Among the many rock formations inside is a silhouette that uncannily resembles the profile of President Lincoln. The sheer scale and atmosphere of the cave are unlike anything else on your Sarawak tour.
After Deer Cave, continue to Lang’s Cave, which, though smaller, is renowned for its spectacular display of stalactites and stalagmites. The fine limestone detail here makes it one of the most beautiful show caves in the region. After visiting both caves, proceed to the bat observatory by late afternoon to witness one of Mulu National Park’s most iconic phenomena: the bat exodus.
Around 5:30 PM, millions of wrinkle-lipped bats stream out from the cave in coordinated waves, forming swirling black ribbons across the evening sky. Bat hawks gather nearby, waiting to prey on them as they emerge. It’s a breathtaking natural display, especially for wildlife and photography lovers. After the spectacle, return to the park HQ via the same rainforest trail.
Later, you’ll return to the resort for a well-earned dinner and a restful night in the jungle.

Wind & Clearwater Caves, Riverside Picnic & Visit to Penan Village
Travel by longboat along the Melinau River to explore Wind Cave and Clearwater Cave, two limestone highlights of Mulu National Park. Walk through the impressive King’s Chamber, enjoy a riverside picnic, and swim in Clearwater Pool. On your return, stop at a Penan village to learn about the traditions of one of Borneo’s Indigenous tribes. Spend the evening relaxing at the resort or taking a quiet walk through the park.
Wind & Clearwater Caves, Riverside Picnic & Visit to Penan Village

Begin your day with breakfast at the resort before heading to the Mulu National Park entrance for a half-day adventure. Board a traditional longboat for a scenic 20-minute ride along the Melinau River, passing dense rainforest and limestone outcrops. Your first stop is a small Penan handicraft market, where you can admire and purchase handmade crafts that reflect the traditions of this Indigenous Sarawak tribe.
Continue by boat to Wind Cave, where you’ll explore the amazing King’s Chamber. This cave is known for its towering stalagmites and stalactites, formed by millions of years of mineral-rich water dripping through limestone. As you walk through the chambers, your guide will share insights into the unique geological history that shaped these natural wonders.
Return to the river and ride a short distance upstream to the Clearwater Cave jetty. Here, a climb of 200 steps brings you to the mouth of Clearwater Cave, part of a vast cave system that stretches over 227 kilometers and contains Asia’s longest underground river. Inside, you’ll witness enormous passages, crystal-clear streams, and stunning cave formations that make this one of the most impressive sites in the park.
After the cave visit, relax beside the river with a simple picnic lunch, surrounded by the sounds of the Borneo rainforest. Take a swim in the Clearwater Pool, a cool and refreshing natural spring-fed basin. Then, return by longboat to the park headquarters, passing Penan villages along the way.
Back at the resort, the rest of the afternoon is yours. Explore other unrestricted trails in Mulu National Park, or unwind with a pampering treatment at the Mandara Spa, tucked into the forest. Dinner is served at the resort’s restaurant, offering a relaxing end to a rewarding day in the heart of Borneo.
